Sciton JOULETM Laser
There is no more advanced cosmetic laser than the Sciton JOULETM laser. This device puts multiple lasers into one platform. The combination of lasers in the Sciton system can provide customizable results for any patient. The customization allows the provider to balance the depth and extent of the treatment with the length of available recovery time for the patient. The core layer in the Sciton system is the Contour TRLTM. This is the Erbium laser, which replaced the CO2 laser as the industry standard in re-surfacing lasers. Sciton’s BBLTM is simply the best IPL laser available due to its dual flash-lamp technology and superior cooling technology. The latest innovation from the Sciton family is the HaloTM Hybrid Fractional Laser. This is now the flagship laser in the Sciton JOULETM platform. The combination of patient comfort during the treatment, results and healing time make this simply the best treatment option for many patients
Sciton Corporate History
Overall Procedure
- Skin laser procedures are typically office procedures.
- We use topical anesthesia, local anesthesia injections (where needed), oral medications to relax you and make you comfortable, and Pro-Nox Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) to REALLY relax you.
- Which procedure you ultimately choose depends on the results you are looking for balance with the number of days of downtime (days to healing) you can afford. Healing times can vary.
- You need to stay out of the direct sun for several weeks before and after your procedure and wear sunscreen daily for at least 6 weeks after the procedure.
- Results are best maintained with some basic skin-care products.
The incredible Sciton laser technologies we have at Revitalessence Medical Spa and Laser CenterTM combine to treat:
- Brown spots
- Broken capillaries
- Fine lines & wrinkles
- Rosacea
- Rough skin
- Sun damage
How much time can you invest in improving your skin? This is the standard question that every patient is asked at Revitalessence Medical Spa and Laser CenterTM when they are interested in cosmetic lasers. The other question to be considered in the evaluation of any potential laser patient is the skin type of the patient.
The darker the skin, the more care, and consideration must be given to what laser is safe to use. Patients are generally assessed during the consultation. Darker skinned patients may not be a candidate for some of the deeper more-aggressive treatments but are still excellent candidates for our BBLTM and HaloTM devices.
MEDIUM HEALING-TIME PROCEDURES
HALOTM
Is the world’s first Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL). It combines two different lasers to treat your skin. Ablative lasers vaporize the tissue and non-ablative lasers just heat the tissue up.
- 1470 nm* non-ablative laser
- Erbium 2940 nm* ablative laser
*nm (nano-meter) = 1/billionth of a meter
Both lasers fire simultaneously in the same spot on your skin. The 1470 nm laser treats the deeper layers of the skin and heats them up. It does not remove this tissue. The 1470 laser can vary from 200-700 microns, but the typical depths used are 300 microns.
The Erbium 2940 nm laser treats very superficially into the epidermis. The typical depth used is 20 microns deep, but it can ge set to go as deep as 100 microns. This tissue is not just heated, it is VAPORIZED (ablated).
The HALOTM effects on the skin are to have a great improvement in the appearance of pigment and texture.
HALOTM Indications
-
-
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Sun damage/dyschromia
- Skin texture
- Skin resurfacing
- Scar revision (including acne scars)
- Signs of aging
- Pigmented lesions
- Improves appearance of enlarged pores
-
Healing Time
HALOTM healing is unusual. Your skin will be dry and will feel thick and leathery for up to a week. Moisturizers should be avoided for the first 48-72 hours. Within the first week, the dry skin will peel. Before that your skin will have little brown dots that are called MENDS (Micro Epidermal Necrotic Debris). They appear as a predictable part of healing from a laser resurfacing treatment such as Halo. The Halo laser creates intentional, microscopic columns of injury in the skin. In the days following treatment, these microscopic columns are shed from the skin as MENDs. Typical healing is a week, but the healing is not too uncomfortable and after the initial 48-72 hours, you can wear makeup.
LONGEST HEALING-TIME PROCEDURES
Contour TRLTM (Tunable Resurfacing Laser)
Is the full-field laser resurfacing system. This is the Erbium 2940 nm ablative laser. This treats the WHOLE surface of the skin, not just spots. Depths can vary widely.
-
-
- NanoLaserPeelTM, which goes 4-10 microns deep
- MicroLaserPeelTM which goes up to 50 microns deep
-
When used as a very shallow treatment, there is not much difference between this treatment and a chemical peel. These depths are more commonly used in combination with other of our lasers like the HaloTM or the BBLTM.
Deep Resurfacing with the Contour TRLTM
The true gold-standard results for facial rejuvenation with the Contour TRLTM is DEEP RESURFACING. This is where the skin is treated over the full surface by peeling several hundred microns deep. It is essentially a controlled 2nd degree burn to the skin. This treatment is not the right treatment for everyone.
-
- It is not safe to perform on patients with darker skin types because of the risk of hyperpigmentation of the skin. It generally can be done on anyone with Fitzpatrick I or II skin types.
- It has an extended healing time compared to other treatments.
- Some patients require this to be done in the Operating Room under General Anesthesia.
- It is now possible to do this in the office under a combination of oral medication, topical anesthetics, nerve block injections, and Pro-Nox (laughing gas).
